I was not present but this was widely reported around Hendon Driving School after the event.
 
Those who have known Steve no doubt became aware that he was a most tactile individual, it didn’t matter who, male or female, young or old, friend or complete stranger so, imagine this;
 
Over the years, owing to the close relationship between Hendon Driving School and Royalty Protection Group invites were sent to the school for the back-up protection officers Christmas party and this partular year Steve was one of the instructors chosen to attend.
 
During the evening much eating and drinking, micky taking and storytelling, typical ‘Olde Bill’, was going on when a very strong rumour went rround that the Princess of Wales was going to visit to thank everyone for their good work and give them her seasonal greetings.
 
Not long after, a female protection officer, knowing of Steve’s tactile nature and possibly having experienced it herself, approached Steve and in no uncertain terms instructed him as follows;
 
“When the Princess of Wales gets here put your hands in your pockets and keep them there” (Probably much more Anglo Saxon than that though)
 
She did attend and Steve complied as instructed, thank god.
